NPCBVI: Vision for a Brighter Future

The National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI) places a strong emphasis on combating cataract-related blindness, especially among senior citizens. Through free cataract surgeries, post-surgery care, and mobile eye care units that reach remote areas, the program has drastically expanded eye care services. In the fiscal year 2022-2023 alone, over 8.3 million cataract surgeries were performed, surpassing the set target. The program has successfully reduced blindness prevalence from 1.1% in 2001-02 to 0.36% by 2020.
